DESCRIPTION
BULB:
ovoid, 3-10 cm in diameter; scales white, becoming purple in air, lanceolate, 4-5 x 1-1.5 cm.

BESCHREIBUNG
Zwiebel:
rundlich, 3-10 cm im Durchmesser; Schuppen weiss, werden an der Luft
purpurn, lanzettlich, 4-5 x 1-1.5 cm.

50-180 cm, papillös, wurzelnd.

LEAVES:
scattered, narrowly linear,
6-9 x ~0.3 cm, papillous on midvein abaxially and at margin, 1-veined.

verteilt, schmal-linear, 6-9 x ~0.3 cm, papillös am Mittelnerv unterseits
und am Rand, 1-nervig.

FLOWERS: 1-8 (up to 30 in
culture)
in an umbel, horizontal, formed like an open funnel, very fragrant. Tepals white, tinged yellow at base and purple on and around midvein
abaxially, lanceolate, 9-11 x 1.5-2 cm, inner ones slightly wider; nectaries
smooth.
Filaments 6-7.5 cm, slightly papillous; anthers ellipsoid, ~10 mm, yellow; pollen
yellow. Ovary cylindric, ~22 x 3 mm. Style ~6 cm. Seeds immediate
epigeal germination. Flowering time June-July.
2n=24.

Blüten:
1-8 (bis 30 in Kultur) in einer Dolde, horizontal abstehend, offen
trichterförmig, stark duftend. Tepalen weiss, an der Basis gelb und an an
der Aussenseite entlang dem Mittelnerv purpurn überlaufen, lanzettlich, 9-11 x 1.5-2 cm, innere
etwias breiter; Nektarien glatt. Filamente 6-7.5 cm, liecht papillös; Antheren
elliptisch, ~10 mm, gelb; Pollen gelb. Ovar zylindrisch, ~22 x 3 mm.
Stylum ~6 cm. Samen
rasche oberirdische Keimung. Blütezeit Juni-Juli. 2n=24.

PECULIARITIES: Closely related to L.
sargentiae with the main difference that L.
regale flowers in an umbel, L. sargentiae
produces them in a large raceme.

Nahe verwandt mit L.
sargentiae mit dem Unterschied, dass L.
regale ihre Blüten in einer Dolde trägt, L.
sargentiae dagegen in einer grossen Rispe.

|
CULTURE NOTES: One of the best "beginner´s"
species which tolerates most types of soil.
