DESCRIPTION

BULB: ovoid-globose, large, 39–94 x 25–71 mm, scales white, broadly ovate.

BESCHREIBUNG

Zwiebel: oval-rundlich, gross, 39–94 x 25–71 mm, Schuppen weiss, breit-oval.

STEM: 60-200 cm, not rooting, often glaucous.

Stängel: 60-200 cm, nicht wurzelnd, oft bläulichgrün.

LEAVES: in 3-5 whorls (3-15 leaves per whorl), becoming smaller in the upper parts of stem, broadly lanceolate, 32–123 x 10–28 mm.

Blätter: in 3-5 Quirlen (3-15 Blätter je Quirl), von unten nach oben hin kleiner werdend, breit lanzettlich, 32–123 x 10–28 mm.

FLOWERS: 1-40 in a raceme, erect, fragrant. Tepals revolute towards tips, forming a tube at the basis, waxy white, turning to pink and wine red over time, speckled in purple, 42–66 x 6–19 mm. Anthers pale yellow; pollen yellow. Capsules usually with 6 longitudinal ridges, 20–37 x 17–27 mm. Seeds 67-189, hypogeal germination in cool fall conditions. Flowering time May-August. 2n=24.

Blüten: 1-40 in einer Rispe, duftend. Tepalen an den Spitzen rückwärts gerollt, an der Basis eine Röhe formend, wachs-weiss, sich mit der Zeit rosa bis weinrot rot färbend, purpurn gepunktet, 42–66 x 6–19 mm. Antheren blassgelb; Pollen gelb. Kapseln gewöhnlich mit 6 Längsrippen, 20–37 x 17–27 mm. Samen 67-189, unterirdische Keimung unter kühlen Herbstbedingungen. Blütezeit Mai-August. 2n=24.

ORIGIN: Western North America (California to S-Oregon); dry Redwood forest areas.

Herkunft: Westliches Nordamerika (Californien bis S-Oregon), trockene Redwood-Wälder.

CULTURE NOTES: Good drainage, moisture during the growing season as well as dry conditions in summer are essential and make it a species not too easy in cultivation.

KULTURHINWEISE: Die Notwendigkeit einer guten Drainage, Feuchtigkeit in der Wachstumszeit und dann Trockenheit im Sommer machen sie zu den nicht ganz einfachen Lilienarten.
