OVERVIEW
The
small Genus Nomocharis consists of currently seven species,
whereby several groups are taxonomically rather difficult. The genus is
very closely related to Lilium - or rather a part of the Genus as
recently shown by molecular analyses (1).

UEBERBLICK
Die
kleine Gattung Nomocharis besteht aus ca. 7 Arten, wobei eine Gruppen
taxonomisch als sehr schwierig gelten. Die Gattung ist sehr nahe
verwandt mit Lilium - eher sogar ein Teil von ihr, wie neuere
moleculargenetische Analysen zeigen (1).

Bulb
roundish with white fleshy scales; stems 25 to up 150 cm high; leaves
mostly in whorles, often with some scattered along the stem; a single
or a few rather large flat-bowl shaped flowers ranging from white to
pink or even soft lilac, according to species.

Zwiebel
rundlich mit fleischigen weissen Schuppen; Stängel 25 bis 150 cm hoch;
eine oder wenige recht grosse flach-schalenförmige
Blüten in weiss, pink oder sogar zart lila, je nach Art.

One important differences to Lilium is the fact that the
stamens are inserted at the base of the tepals and swollen -
see picture.

Einer wichtiger Unterschied zu Lilium ist, dass die Staubblätter
direkt an der Tepalenbasis sitzen und verdickt sind - siehe

All
Nomocharis species are alpine
plants growing on cool, moist and rhich locations in S-W-China and
allied countries.

Nomocharis-Arten sind
alpine Pflanzen auf kühlen, feuchten fruchtbaren Standorten in
Süd-West-China und den benachbarten Ländern.
