To
find out if lily seeds are viable and will most probably germinate, the
following simple procedure can be made (Information

If
you spread the lily seeds out over a piece of glass that has a low
intensity light [7 to 10 watt] behind it you can see which seeds have
embryos and which seeds don´t and, therefore, are nothing but chaff. If
your light is to strong the embryos can not be seen, to fix this you can
tape a piece of white paper to your sheet of glass then spread the seeds
on that. The term used for this process is "candle the seeds".
Perfect
for that purpose is a light tracer table for examining slides.

Wenn
man die Liliensamen auf ein Stück Glas mit einem schwachen Licht [7-10
W] darunter ausbreitet, kann man sehen, welche Samen Embryos tragen, und
welche unbefruchtet = wertlos sind. Bei zu starkem Licht sieht man
ebenfalls nichts, in diesem Fall streut man das Licht mit einem weissen
Blatt Papier auf dem Glas. "Candling" bedeutet also
"durchleuchten" der Samen.
Perfekt
geeignet ist dafür natürlich ein Dia-Betrachter! |

It`s
amazing what you can see while candling the seeds: You can see which
seeds have two embryos that will produce a set of twins when they
germinate. You can see when the endosperm has started to develop then
failed. You can also see when the embryo is not where it should be which
could signal that embryo rescue may be needed for a certain crossing.

Das
Candling von Liliensamen ist recht interessant: Man kann dabei Samen mit
2 Embryonen finden, die bei der Keimung Zwillinge hervorbringen werden.
Man sieht, wenn das Endosperm (Nährgewebe) frühzeitig abgestorben ist.
Schliesslich kann man auch sehen, dass der Embryo fehlt oder verkümmert
ist, wie es bei Kreuzungen entfernt verwandter Arten passieren kann,
sodass etwa Embryo Rescue angezeigt sein kann. |
